Kevin Wayne Durant (born September 29, 1988) is an American professional basketball player who currently plays with the Oklahoma City Thunder of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He has played the small forward position for the Thunder, formerly the Seattle SuperSonics. Durant has won an NBA Most Valuable Player Award, four NBA scoring titles, the NBA Rookie of the Year Award, and an Olympic gold medal. He has also been selected to five All-NBA teams and six All-Star teams.
Durant was a heavily recruited high school prospect. He attended the University of Texas for one season of college basketball, where he won numerous year-end awards and became the first ever freshman to be named Naismith College Player of the Year. In the 2007 NBA draft, he was selected second overall by the Seattle SuperSonics. After his rookie season, the team moved to Oklahoma City and became the Thunder. Durant helped lead the Thunder to the 2012 NBA Finals, losing to the Miami Heat in five games. In 2012, he starred in his first feature film, ''Thunderstruck''.
==Early life==
Durant was born on September 29, 1988 in Washington, D.C. to Wanda (née Durant) and Wayne Pratt. When Durant was an infant, his father deserted the family; Wanda and Wayne eventually divorced, and Durant's grandmother Barbara Davis helped raise him. Durant has one sister, Brianna, and two brothers, Tony and Rayvonne.〔(Kevin Durant USA Basketball ). Retrieved May 19, 2008.〕 During this time, Durant began wearing #35 as his jersey number in honor of his AAU coach Charles Craig, who was murdered at the age of 35.
After playing two years of high school basketball at National Christian Academy and one year at Oak Hill Academy, Durant transferred to Montrose Christian School for his senior year, growing five inches before the start of the season and beginning the year with a height of six feet, seven inches.〔Picker, David. ("In the N.B.A.'s Age Game, Colleges Are Big Winners" ), ''The New York Times'', April 22, 2006. Accessed December 1, 2007. "Durant, a forward at Montrose Christian School in Rockville, Md., has heard the endless chatter about where he would have been selected in the N.B.A. draft in June. A first-rounder? No doubt. A lottery pick? Probably so."〕 Prior to the start of the season, he committed to the University of Texas. At the conclusion of the year, he was named the Washington Post All Met Basketball Player of the Year, as well as MVP of the 2006 McDonald's All American Game.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://preps.scout.com/2/502266.html )〕〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://espn.go.com/high-school/boys-basketball/photos/gallery/_/id/7739240/image/24/kevin-durant-class-2006-2012-mcdonald-greatest-all-americans-photo-gallery )〕 He was widely regarded as the second-best high school prospect of 2006.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Basketball Recruiting: Top Recruits )
